Coal Industry Future: Answers May Lie In The Past
Carbon capture projects to limit greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere that could accelerate global warming have hit several roadblocks this past year in its development. In West Virginia, Scotland and Germany- three areas that have been at the forefront of this technology, have faced high costs for the technology and bleak prospects the world will put a high price on emitting greenhouse gases. Fortunately for those wanting to cap emissions, the enhanced oil recovery industry, who have profited for four decades by perfecting this practice, is hungry the gas. Power utilities and other coal-burning companies may find it wiser to link up with this mature industry than to plunge ahead with their own versions of carbon capture and storage.
