The Coast Gaurd has implemented an initiative enitled “Operation Right Speed” to protect right whales migrating along the Eastern Seabord. Large boats must adhere to The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s new requirments that vessels 65 feet or greater must operate at 10 knots or less in areas where the right whales are known to migrate. Right whales are the most endangered of whales with its population estimated in the hundreds.
